24 Things I Learned By Age 24
July 30, 2019
Tomorrow is my 24th birthday, and in my 24 years, I have learned a lot of lessons. Many lessons come from the four years I was in college and the year that I have been out of school and in the professional world. However, I feel that all these lessons are applicable and something others can relate to and learn from. So, without further ado, here are 24 things I have learned in my 24 years:
- My self-worth is wholly decided by me.
- It is okay to say “no” and “no” should be exercised and respected.
- I need to love myself before I let someone else love me.
- Someone is capable of loving me.
- I am not a burden. Everything I do is not a mistake, so there is no need to apologize for every single thing.
- Quit saying I’m okay when someone asks how I’m doing and in reality, I’m stressed, tired, angry, or experiencing some type of emotion that is typically not covered under the response of “good.” It’s okay to not be “good” – it’s real, its’s vulnerable, it’s human, and if others feel uncomfortable by that, that is their problem, not mine.
- Some relationships need to be let go so that I can flourish and fill my life with positive people.
- Committing to multiple activities, such as clubs or organizations, do not make me more important.
- An ex is an ex for a reason – to be made an EX-ample of what I don’t want.
- In every mistake, there is a lesson to be learned.
- You and the people around you are going to change and that is inevitable.
- Adult relationships require constant effort and time…and I suck at texting, so I got to work even harder.
- I am capable of running a mile and, in fact, working out makes me happy.
- Be grateful and don’t take things for granted.
- Self-care is an essential part of a healthful lifestyle.
- STOP comparing yourself to others!
- Be brave and share your story. Believe it or not, it may help someone and you will be surprised by how many people say #MeToo.
- Lifting others up is a lot easier than tearing someone apart.
- You shouldn’t stay in a position that makes you unhappy.
- Listen to your body and what it is telling you. If it says it’s stressed, take proper to care for yourself.
- Do not be timid with your talents.
- Extend the grace that you so wish to have.
- To be secure financially is a powerful feeling.
- Make every moment count by living life to the fullest, having healthy relationships, and taking care of overall health.
