Props That Make Pictures Pop!

Quarantine Log

Day I-don’t-even-know-anymore

Being confined to my personal dwelling place has forced me to be creative. I find myself covering my body in gold glitter, body in acrylic paint, and posing with various fruits to get “the shot.”

Theatrics aside, being stuck in quarantine for the last few weeks has tested my creativity and has asked me to think outside of the box when photographing for Instagram at home. I’m playing with levels, poses, angles, apps, many different editing techniques (shout out to PicsArt!), and, of course, props.

Props make photos dynamic – they make them pop! I can take a beautiful picture showing off an outfit, but why not make it interesting to look at by holding a sliced orange in front of my eye?

Here is a list of items that can be found around the home or purchased for cheap that I highly recommend adding to your prop box:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Colorful table cloths
  • Lacey table cloth
  • Fruit
  • Confetti
  • Eyeliner
  • Glitter
  • Acrylic paint
  • Plants/Flowers
  • Books/Magazines
  • Frames
  • Mirrors
  • Stickers
  • Cardstock paper
  • Bedsheets
  • Photogenic mugs
  • Fairy lights
  • Stockings
  • Scarves
  • Maps
  • Candy
  • Vintage cameras
  • Tinfoil
  • Fiber Fill batting

There is always more props to try and over time they will be added to this list. I hope this list sparks creativity and inspires you to try your own in-home photoshoot.
