Unboxing My Summer 2019 CAUSEBOX

I kicked off my subscription to CAUSEBOX this Spring and fell in LOVE with all nine of the products I received (check out my Spring unboxing here). Ever since April, I have wondered and anxiously waited for the Summer box, and two weeks ago it arrived!

The Summer 2019 box came packed with seven fun-in-the-sun products! “I’ve curated the products inside to inspire you to make use of every drop of sunlight that Summer sends your way,” writes Hannah, the Editor-in-Chief of CAUSEBOX’s magazine. Will do!

For those who are unfamiliar with CAUSEBOX, the subscription box started in 2018 with the simple mission to support brands and give back. Behind each full-size product there is a story and a founder, and CAUSEBOX introduces you to both, thus connecting you to new brands and women entrepreneurs each season.

In each box, you could find an assortment of jewelry, housewares, skincare, or accessories valued at over $200 for $49.95. Some products are even exclusive collaborations between the brand and CAUSEBOX. Now, let’s dive into the goodies I got in my Summer 2019 box!

Catch me outside, at home, or on the go, and there is a strong possibility that I have a scrunchie either on my wrist or in my hair, so you bet I was excited to add these Banded2Gether scrunchies to my collection. Not only are these scrunchies a hot summer accessory, but they also give back in a BIG way. Lisa Struble ensures that her company donates three meals for every product sold. “To-date, we’ve provided over 10 million meals,” said Struble. Not excited by scrunchies? That’s okay! They also create headwraps, headbands, bandanas, clips, and hair ties.

As much as I love skincare, admittedly, I don’t get excited about SPF. I know, I know, but guess what? That was until I met this brand, and now things are All Good (sorry for the bad pun)! All Good was founded in 1997 by Caroline Duell who started off with one healing salve made with farm-grown calendula. She has since expanded her product line and includes this SPF 30 reef friendly sport sunscreen. When you buy and use All Good sunscreen you are not only protecting your skin, but you are also defending our reefs from dangerous coral bleaching.

In each CAUSEBOX, there are choice items for annual members. This season, annual members had the choice between Hanalei’s Papaya Enzyme Powder Face Cleanser and Island Aloe Gel. Since I am not an annual member I did not get a chance to choose, however, I am very excited to have received the enzyme cleanser. Hanalei was founded by Alice Kim and she has resolved to keep the brand 100% cruelty-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and sulfate-free. Their cleanser is in a unique formulation because it is a dry powder that when introduced to water and rubbed between hands, works into a foam. It is a light product that cleans the skin and returns the skin to its natural pH all without stripping the skin with nasty chemicals.

Earlier this year, I wrote about easy switches that can be made to reduce single-use plastic consumption, and point #4 was utilizing reusable cups. This sleek stainless steel cup from Reduce Everyday is perfect for keeping your liquids cold for 12 hours with vacuum insulation. Ken Kreafle, the owner of Reduce Everyday, hopes to solve the drinkware problem by offering a sustainable option with a lifetime warranty with the hopes that it cut down the use of single-use water bottles and plastic cups. Reduce Everyday also shows it’s commitment to sustainability by partnering with Georgia charity Chattahoochee River Keeper, which spearheads river cleanups.

Like I mentioned last time, one of my favorite parts is how CAUSEBOX supports an artist with their Artist Residency Program. For the Summer 2019 box, CAUSEBOX collaborated with Australian artist, Antra Švarcs. You can see her beautiful artwork all over the box, throughout the magazine, and you even get a print. Her work is full of vibrant colors and figures engaging with the natural world. “Illustrating people connecting positively with the natural world is an undeniably small, but hopefully meaningful, way I can inspire positive change and engagement,” said Švarcs.

CAUSEBOX has your trip to the beach or pool in mind and that is very apparent in this collaboration with Quagga Green. Together, they developed this bikini bag with art from Mélanie Johnsson, to keep your wet swimsuit separate from your dry items. Quagga Green was founded by Barry Horn, and he leveraged his pre-existing manufacturing relationships to create a line of sustainable and ethically made products. In fact, this bag is made from recycled polyester. “The material is made from breaking down plastic bottles into plastic chips and converting them into a strong fiber. The yarn is woven or knit into recycled polyester fabrics,” said Connie Bourgeois, the head designer for Quagga Green. With the purchase of Quagga Green products, you are also choosing to support organizations that are working hard to help preserve endangered wildlife.

You can’t go to the beach without a cover-up and Tribe Alive has got you covered with their Indian-made caftan. This item was made into three colorways: navy, turquoise, and orange. These caftans are high-quality, woven, and hand-stitched by women artisans, who otherwise might have to turn to factories or leave their families to move to large cities to find work. Just like the scarf from the Spring box, this caftan is very versatile in the sense that it can be fashioned into many different styles.

Lastly, you can fit all of these products and more in this cute and summery tote from CAUSEBOX’s own brand Altru. I have already used this bag at the beach, as well as, converting it into my work bag and I couldn’t be happier with the space it provides. This straw tote benefits our oceanic communities because Altru has partnered with global and local charities that are fighting to protect and conserve our beaches, oceans, and marine life.

There you have it! All seven products from the Summer 2019 CAUSEBOX. I don’t know about you, but I am so ready to hit the beach with my new goodies. I am so excited to get the most out of these until the season changes yet again and the Fall 2019 box comes out. Comment below with your favorite product.
